The Story

What is Juneteenth?

On June 19th, 1865, two and half years after The Emancipation Proclamation itself, ended slavery in the Confederacy (On paper) over 250,00 slaves were delivered news that they were free in Texas. The date is celebrated as the day our ancestors were told they were free but as we all know it wasn't date they were actually freed. Some slaves sued their prior owners, headed on a journey to find family members, ran for local offices, while others were punished and killed for their new right to freedom or kept captive.

We celebrate the year of Juneteenth by following our own code to freedom and never forget the history behind this day. This t-shirt reads the date of Juneteenth and Black with a CAPITOL B.
